Crime: Rebellion.

Honestly there's a lot of crimes Rinoa could be accused of, I was debating between rebellion, treason, and a few others. But Rebellion is broad enough I decided it worked best. Rebellion against an impressive government? Against society? Against her Father? All of the above and more.

Mods are welcome to choose a different crime if they'd prefer.

Background: wiki link

Personality:
At first glance, Rinoa seems like a friendly and outgoing teenager who's a bit of a flirt. Born into a wealthy family, she's grown up in a world of luxury that's left her somewhat naïve about the workings of the world. Rinoa isn't the sort of person who believes in holding a lot back. In fact, sometimes she's a little too open about her opinions, which can land her in trouble sometimes. Despite this, she actually means well and seems to follow the belief that kindness and friendship are stronger than violence. Who else would think giving the evil sorceress a piece of jewelry that would bind her magic is a better idea than just killing her?

Rinoa isn't very adept at planning things out. She's great at having ideas, but her execution of them often leaves a lot to be desired. Part of this is because she's just too inexperienced to fully realize them. The rest is mostly just because she's just too darn rash and/or stubborn to fully plan things before charging in. Squall criticizes her for this early on and she doesn't respond well to what he says. In fact, she actually runs away. Simply because she doesn't want to hear what he has to say. It's yet another one of the ways that highlights just how different she is from the trained mercenaries she's traveling with.

That's an important thing to remember about her character. In a group of fully trained mercenaries, Rinoa is the odd one out. For most of the game she's basically just a normal teenager. And like a normal teenager, her actions can often be some combination of ill-advised, rash, or downright stupid. Often this ends in disaster and there are several times where people have to come to her rescue. Sometimes though, Rinoa has the right idea of it. Where Irvine would have been content leaving everyone else stuck in prison, Rinoa made him go back. It's a good thing too, because as it is everyone barely escapes alive.

Thankfully all is well that ends well - as losing people is one of the things that Rinoa fears the most. Her mother died when she was five years old and not long after that her father changes from loving caregiver to more of a distant stranger. Ever since then she's been afraid of being alone and also the dark. It's never explicitly stated in canon just what causes Rinoa to join the Forest Owls or just what catalyst makes her decide to take on her mother's maiden name. It's obvious that Rinoa does truly care about Timber and that she really does want make the city free from Galbadia's grasp. However how much of this desire originated from her wishing to rebel against her father is unclear. Since he's a rather important man in Galbadia's military, the fact that Rinoa's fighting to free Timber from Galbadia control can only be seen as an act of rebellion, no matter what intentions she might have.

Whatever her initial reasons, it pretty much falls to the wayside entirely as bigger problems start to pile up. Soon Rinoa's goal of helping free Timber is lost in the chaos as it becomes a desperate journey to save the world. It's fairly telling that Rinoa continues to stick with everyone even after her original goals are pushed to the side. This stubborn insistence is a big step up for Rinoa from her early behavior! By the end of the game she's resolved to stand no matter what the cost.

What a cost it is too! Becoming a sorceress isn't something she sought out, it's more thrust upon her with no real choice. Especially as these new powers made her a danger to everyone. Add to this a powerful evil that can seemingly control her at will and Rinoa is left with some tough decisions. Ultimately her fear of hurting the people she cares about is more important than her aversion to being alone and Rinoa accepts a fate that would leave her completely cut off from the world in a state of "living death". Being sealed away would mean that she's isolated from everything and unable to even move. Still she accepts this fate despite how much she fears it just to protect everyone else.

Squall's rescue forces her to face the fact that she's still running away from things instead of facing them. It's thanks to this that she resolves to see the fight through to the finish, vowing to do what she could to stop the sorceress from the future. This is a brave step towards a new world for Rinoa, showing just how much she's grown from the sheltered girl she'd been at the start of their journey.

Abilities:
Elemental Magic:Pretty straight forward, the ability to harness fire, ice, water, light, etc
White Magic: Healing spells, defensive barriers, and stuff like that.
Flight: Not fully explored in game, but Rinoa can tap into her magic to sprout a pair of angel wings presumably she has at least limited flight capabilities with them.
Combat: Has a variety of experience in combat now. Is pretty useless in close-quarter fighting, fighting with magic and a ranged boomerang adjacent weapon known as a Blaster's Edge
